ANIMONDIAL - Bringing compassion to tourism

What’s SDG17 got to do with it?

Yes, that is indeed an ode to Tina Turner, who was certainly no stranger to powerful collaboration, which takes me nicely into the subject of this blog… and what indeed Continue Reading →

Making the right choice to protect animals

Businesses will soon be required to adopt procedures that assess the environmental consequences of their decisions, specifically with an aim to minimise impact and act to better protect nature. … Continue Reading →

Nature is everyone’s business

Returning from Geneva earlier this month, I was inspired by the sense of urgency demonstrated by national governments, the private sector and civil society, in their acknowledgement that biodiversity protection Continue Reading →

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

ANIMONDIAL’s services are underpinned by its Guiding Principles:

Reconnect with nature
Increasing the opportunity for travellers to reconnect, understand, appreciate, and respect nature as a lifeline for wellbeing, prosperity, and survival. A sustainable and responsible enjoyment of nature.

Safeguard individual welfare
Ensuring animals involved in holiday offerings / excursions have a life worth living. Where a respect for life on Earth starts with recognising and safeguarding their individual and species-specific needs.

Overcome industry challenges
Working with stakeholders to create alternatives to ‘stop sale’. ANIMONDIAL identifies responsible alternative experiences that enhance the business brand and underpin a healthy natural environment.

Protect threatened species
Preventing the killing, wild-capture, illegal trade and sale of animal and plant species, in particular those categorised as Threatened with extinction by IUCN. Seeking their effective in situ conservation.

Invest in nature
Providing the means for businesses to support community-led animal protection and nature conservation, encouraging local people to value biodiversity and natural habitats.

Not the cuddliest or most endearing creature to most people but the millions of species of insects really are biodiversity superheroes. And they need our help to avoid the mass extinctions that are happening right now. A world with less insect diversity is a world with:🐝 Less colour & scent from declining flowers that are reliant on insect pollination.🦗 Fewer birds & birdsong as many bird & animal species have a high insect based diet. Breaking the chain of interconnected species with far reaching consequences .🪲Reduced food crops due to problems such as lack of pollination and seed dispersal, forcing prices up and increasing malnutrition and starvation.🐜 Reduced soil quality and stability, the basis of life essential growth.🦟 Increased spread of diseases with reduced species driven pest control, for example, some species of dragonflies help control disease carrying mosquito numbers.🪳Slower decay due to an absence of insects that decompose natural wasteNatural, wild, abundant locations are buzzing with insect life. Compare that to where you live. This extinction is something that we can see with our own eyes and older generations can easily compare to a couple of decades ago. Rarer sightings of butterflies and bees, less bugsplats on car windscreens, nearly 60% less flying insects than 20 years ago.Let’s support these tiny eco superheros:🌺 Rewild our gardens and cities with flowers and plant life that can help sustain them. 🏞 Reduce their habitat loss and restore with greater diversity. ☠️Carefully consider our use of pesticides. Our world is a wonderful delicate balance, diverse insect species are vital. Let’s support and celebrate them this #insectweek.Listen to this brilliant The Guardian podcast with Oliver Milman, author of the Insect Crisis - The Fall of the Tiny Empire that Run the World interviewed by Michael Safi.
